When John Brooks daughter jumped to her death from the Golden Gate bridge, his grieving mind searched for answers. He had thought she was a well-adjusted, normal teen, successful and getting ready to go to college. But how could she have done this if that was true? He set out to try his best to understand what had driven her and, in the process, learned about the potential impact on development of adoption. Could attachment issues have been part of what pushed her so far? His loss led him to devote himself to making sure other adoptive families have the information they need to be healthy and secure. And he has also worked tirelessly to improve safety at the Golden Gate to save other families from the agony he and his wife have endured.
On Good Grief we explore the losses that define our lives. Each week, we talk with people who have transformed themselves through the profound act of grieving. Why settle for surviving? Say yes to the many experiences that embody loss! Grief can teach you where your strengths are and ignite your courage. It can heighten your awareness of what is important to you and help you let go of what is not.
