According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 4 million Americans quit their jobs in July 2021. Resignations peaked in April and have remained abnormally high for several months, with a record-breaking 10.9 million open jobs at the end of July. The trend has not yet hit Europe in the forces like in the U.S.. Still, Personio recently conducted a study among Dutch workers which had ‘US-like results’, wherein it found that 46% of those surveyed planned to quit in the next six months to a year — five per cent higher than the global percentage. You will hear several arguments about why jobs are hard to fill, from too much governmental support to zoom exhaustion. But one thing for sure is that the pandemic has caused many to reflect and reconsider their jobs. As a result, there has been some shifting of values and focus.
